Extracting layer's data

Hi,

I think this should be a rather simple thing but I can’t find it anywhere.

I am trying to extract the layer’s data (in this case this are streets and each street has a clean index) to modify it’s geometry acording to it.

Any idea of how to do it or where can I find a similar example?
