Where would you go to update name field so it shows the Name associated with the ID? Is it possible to change what attributes are in the notification?
Heads up everyone,
For your reference, here are the two enhancements that helps with this behavior:
Hi @SteveMcCarthy, > Is it possible to change what attributes are in the notification? Currently, it is not possibe to customize emails sent from notifications. However, we do have the enhancement of being able to "customize notification emails" on the ArcGIS Monitor Dev roadmap. We are working on enabling this in a future release.Hope this helps,
This is a must-have feature for Monitor 2023. Currently, email notifications are not useful at all. Why do you have to click a link to see the alert? The email notifications at 10.8.1 were so much better, they told you at a glance, exactly what was the alert all about.
I take it the ID refers to the actively running metric? For instance the email sends as ID: 2, which in the list is labeled as Name: Process CPU Utilized - postgres.exe (%). It would be excellent if instead of NA in the email Name field it could insert the label Name of the metric...
@DerekLaw
We recently upgraded to 2023.1 version and the notification still does not show the name and appears as NA
Kindly look into it as its very critical to respond to production components and compared to test/dev components based on the email we receive.
We'd like to add to this request as well. We're happy to see the LINK take us directly to the issue (yay this is an improvement from the old monitor era) but overall this email is not a useful for administrators.
ID numbers and Name as NA is not helpful. Please consider implementing this update sooner than later.
thank you,
Amanda Huber
We have been fighting this battle for a while now... Here was my suggestion:
Here is an overview of the issue, possible fix, and comments from users:
The enhancement request for “provide the ability to customize emails sent from notifications” doesn’t correspond with the problem with 2023.1. The emails sent by 10.8 included useful information without any customization on our part. We expected to have such basic functionality working in the new version. We imagine “customization of emails” to include things like setting letterheads, fonts, etc. In other words a complicated request that isn’t high priority. That’s not needed by us if the functionality from 10.8 could be revived.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, it appears to be either a mistake, an oversight or something they figure to fix down the road.
At the moment, 2023 isn’t usable in my opinion.
I’m beginning to wonder if one of the third party alternatives isn’t cheaper and better
The 10.8.1 Monitor notifications included:
Level
Name
Type
Counter
Value
Rule
Validation Value
Last Updated
Notes
Info
monitor.server.ca
SYSTEM
Disk % Idle ( E )
1.00
<

Disk is busy
The 2023.x notification contains the following information:
The Email Subject Line – Collection Name
The following table is included in the email whereby NAME field references the Metric Name, only it says NA but as seen in the screenshot below it should state Request Response Time Max (s). STATUS field indicates the alert threshold, which was Warning, however, the ALERT RULE and ALERT VALUE should be listed as AVG >= and 3 s respectively.
ID
NAME
STATUS
URL
26
NA
Warning
LINK
At a minimum the new notification table with the existing information available (ID is useless and could be dropped) should be:
COLLECTION NAME
METRIC NAME
ALERT RULE
ALERT VALUE
SERVERNAME: ArcGIS Server
Request Response Time Max (s)
AVG >=
3 s
As you can see, the notification email collects the information from the collection metrics whereby alerting is set to on:
To add to this, I did more testing with the webhook functionality and it also is just as limited. This is disappointing. Here's a sample from the call (below) nothing shows the Server Name or Metric Name/Error Name only the code (similar to the emails):

@DerekLaw is there any timeline for when this will be resolved/implemented?
Thanks
Hi @Amanda__Huber,> ... is there any timeline for when this will be resolved/implemented? Sorry, I don't have an estimate of when this will be implemented.
@DerekLaw Is aforementioned issue resolved in ArcGIS Monintor 2023.2?
Hi @Galada_321,No, there are no changes to email notifications in the forthcoming Monitor 2023.2 release. The 2023.2 release will be a minor update with a focus on database partitioning.
Hope this helps,
Our organization was also a little bummed with the limited email notification functionality. In the meantime, I thought I'd share a tiny workaround to this for everyone else.
The notification name is included as the email subject line, so I've created around 5 different notifications so far with different names so I can tell at a glance in my inbox what has happened.
In my email, I see the following:
100% not ideal but at least I can at a glance know what the alert is for. Probably only good for smaller deployments like mine, unless you're okay with managing a bunch of these notifications. Hopefully we see this functionality fleshed out a bit in future updates. I'll probably keep doing it this way in the meantime..
I'm still very keen on ENH-000159627. I was hoping it being in product plan for over a year would have some further news by now.
How is everyone else managing their email alert notifications?
Have you just accepted that the name is NA? Or have you created dozens of custom notifications for each metric or component instead of using collections?
Timo
I agree with most here that this needs to be addressed. Notification are pretty much useless unless you set up a notification for every alert possibility. For me minimum is name, but really feel it should be configurable for name, State, opened at, Closed at, duration, Type, Subtype, and description. Comments might also be helpful but i could see where that might be out of scope.
All,
FYI, there are some enhancements to email notifications in the ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1 release. Please see the What's New in ArcGIS Monitor 2024.1 release blog. Hope this helps,
All of these enhancement look very helpful:
This is incredible! Thanks so much @DerekLaw and team for implementing this.
We're very excited to test it out.
Best,
Amanda
