Register Component: Oracle

Is there a preferred way to connect using the address and service name fields when registering an Oracle connection?  I have the 64-bit client working on the server, and even added the Oracle instant client - both are working fine when connecting to sqlplus.  When I try to register the Oracle component I'm getting this error:

 

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

What are you putting in your connection properties in ArcGIS?

Are you using TNS (<name>) or EZConnect (<server/SID>)?

If using TNS in the connection properties, do you have TNS configured in the client?

I would just go with the 64-bit full client and not the instant client.
