In version 4.x, can the measurement distance be set to the shortest distance on the plane instead of the projected coordinates?
The 2D measurement widgets will compute distances geodetically for geographic coordinate systems and web mercator. For projected coordinate systems (non-web mercator), computations will be performed planimetrically for distances up to the threshold distance defined by geodesicDistanceThreshold. Are you looking for this property to adjust the threshold?
