UpdateFeatureAsync gives "cannot perform operation" error

I published to our server a feature class from ArcMap 10.8 that has sync enabled. When our developer goes to use the UpdateFeatureAsync she is getting an exception that says "cannot perform operation". Any ideas on why we are getting this exception or where to get more details about what it doesn't like?
