Updating Image Layer When New Images Added to File Share

I am testing creating an Image Layer in ArcGIS Portal of georeferenced plans stored in a file share. However I don't see any way to update the image layer after new files have been added to the file share. Is this possible or is the only option to recreate the image layer periodically? Ideally there would be a way to sync the image service with the file share.
