Keeping Occupants feature class up to date

Looking for real world examples or good ideas on keeping the Occupants feature class up to date.  Once employees are added to the Occupants FC and are assigned to Units or Hotels, Space Planner specific attributes are populated in the FC.  That means you can't just overwrite the Occupants FC with a new list of employees without losing unit and hotel assignments.

Once Occupants FC is in a hosted feature layer, what is a good way to add new employees, remove those who have left and even update employee attributes like title, department, and phone number?

@MichaelJenkins  - In the interim, you make a local copy of occupants when you load it, then update the assignment fields after loading based on the local copy. This could be achieved by joining the local copy to the newly loaded data and assign the values from the local copy assignment fields to the newly updated/loaded.
