Trying to select a small number of features from a 3.5 GB geodatabas

Good Afternoon,

I downloaded the Dept. of Transportation's geodatabase of all the addresses in the US, however I am having trouble selecting from attributes or spatial selection as the address points are not selecting. I know the size of the geodatabase will have issues. What do you all do to get around this problem?

Could you explain the workflow steps that you have followed so far? Please attach snapshots wherever required.

What expression have you defined for "Select by Attribute"? What parameters are defined for spatial selection?

Have you used Select Layer By Attribute (Data Management) and

Select Layer By Location (Data Management) 

Also you can turn off the layer visibility in Content pane.
