Filtering Map Layer not reflected in indicator or list

I am using a list to select a polygon in a map layer.  Then I filter a point layer spatially based on the selected polygon in the map.  I have a count indicator and a list based on the point layer in the map.  When I select a item in the initial list it will select the associated polygon on the map and the map will filter the point layer and only show points that are within the selected polygon.  Shouldn't the indicator and list that is associated with the point layer reflect the filtered points?  It continues to show total count and all items in the list.
