Add search capability to Compare Instant App

I'm updating an old configurable app to a newer app. The older Compare app allows searching by address, but the Instant App does not. Our app compares FEMA flood zones from different years. The ability for staff and the public to search by address seems basic and would be very helpful. The alternative is to know the city well enough to zoom to any address or to use a second map to locate an address - a big ask.

In working on a different issue with the Compare app, an Esri tech checked this for me and concluded, "The Modify interactivity settings documentation shows the Search tool as not being supported in Compare. To utilize this tool, another template would have to be selected."

The Compare webpage says, "All Instant Apps templates include settings for a Home button and zoom controls, a legend, and the capability to search the map or data."

It should have a configurable search. Example: I have a list of 100 parcels I need to view photography years side by side. How do I find them without using another app without a search widget?

Curious as to what that "issue I consistently have with ExB" is. Your feedback would be very beneficial.

I also agree with you on (at least what I think) is your assertion that all Instant Apps should support a core set of capabilities. I'll take the liberty of extending your thoughts and feedback by adding "then add focused tools to the specific implementation target audience and goals of the Instant App template."

Would save me some time if you can let me know which are the ones that you think are lacking in a common foundation. You can respond here, or privately to bszukalski@esri.com.

@BernSzukalski, thanks for your reply. The other app I find that allows me to compare is Experience Builder. I thought I’d try your Instant App that sounds tailored to my needs and avoid an issue I consistently have with ExB.

Search is included in all but two of the 22 Instant Apps. I hear sometimes from Esri that an app “works as designed” or “works as expected.” However, I feel the design falls short by not having the search function, which is extremely basic and helpful.

I've not dug into your comments deeply (been busy with the What's New in ArcGIS Online blog article) but wanted to mention a couple of current resources that might help you out.

The first is the keyword search on the Instant Apps Gallery home page. Enter something you are looking for to find a match.

Perhaps a better resource when you are looking for specific capabilities, especially when considering which template to use, is the PDF capabilities comparison document.
