Solaris ZFS and SAMBA performance

I have significance performance issues when I access and perform processing on file geodatabases stored on a Solaris ZFS filesystems accessed through SAMBA, compared to a Windows server. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It currently about 8 times slower.
