Format numbers in REST response

In ArcMap I can format number fields to be shown in a defined format (e.g. 39.49384 to 39.5)
When I publish the map to ArcGIS server and query the data, it returns the full double value.

It would save configuration/development time if ArcGIS server would deliver the field value in the defined format.
Or at a minimum it should deliver the information about the defined format.
