Host portal cannot reach invited portal for collaboration

Hi everyone,

I am trying to set collaborations between the portals of our organisation. I followed the following online ressources :

It seems that the host portal cannot reach the portal I want to invite. Which is strange because the invited portal is working fine. I can reach it with and without the Web Adaptor.

I checked the following parameters:

1/ Root and intermediate certificates for the host portal have been added

2/ All the URLs are in https

3/ Pop-up windows are allowed in my web browser

Regarding the web adaptor we are using an alias. Could it be that a WebContextURL is missing from the properties?

If anyone had the same issue, it would be cool to know how you managed to make it work.

Hello Melanie Fournier‌,

It is possible there are network issues stopping the guest and host portals communicating successfully. Are either the guest or host portals public facing? For example can they be accessed outside of your internal network?

If you want to confirm if the host portal can resolved the guest portal I would recommend the follow workflow.

Remote to the Portal for ArcGIS (Host) machine.
Login to the machine using the account running the Portal for ArcGIS Windows service.
Open a browser and attempt to access Portal for ArcGIS (Guest)

Hi,

Technically you should still be able to establish a distributed collaboration between 2 portals even if the host portal cannot reach the guest portal. You might be running into a bug found in 10.8.

BUG-000130268 - Distributed collaboration fails to import response when host portal cannot resolve peer.

This has been fixed in 10.8.1. The workaround would be to follow the suggestions Thomas made to ensure the host portal can communicate with the guest portal when logged in as the portal service account.

Is this limited to 10.8 or are other versions affected? I'm trying to get Collaboration working between ArcGIS Online and Portal 10.6.1 and am hitting the following error:

From the guest machine (Portal 10.6.1) I can access ArcGIS Online with the service account running Portal.

Thanks for replying and sorry for the delay in answering.

None of the portals are public. Everything is on the company intranet.

I can access both portals just fine.

Yes, that issue is unique to 10.8. It did not exist in earlier releases.

For the issue you are seeing at 10.6.1, is there a forward proxy in your Portal environment that is used to provide external access to the Internet? You mentioned that you can access ArcGIS Online with the service account but that account might be using a proxy configured at the OS level. One way to check is to open Internet Options from the Control Panel, select the Connections tab, and click LAN settings. This lists any proxy configurations.

If you are using a proxy server, you would need to configure your Portal to use the same proxy. Information on how to do that can be found here.

Hi,

Both (host and guest) of our portals were upgraded from 10.8 to 10.8.1, yet we are experiencing BUG-000130268

At our 10.8.1 environment we are also experiencing the same issue. I have configured the forward proxy in Portal outlined here https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/using-a-forward-proxy-server-with-portal-for-arcgis.htm. I have spoke with my proxy team and our server needs to communicate through the proxy tunnel via 8080 which they have confirmed is happening.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
