Ideas Wanted for Story Maps 300 hour Technical Project

Hello,

I'm a 3rd year (level 6) Geomatics Degree student at the British Colombia Institute of Technology in Vancouver, Canada. I am studying to become a professional surveyor.

Part of my program is to write report on a technical project. The project will continue into our 4th year. We are at the stage of brain storming for potential project topics.

There needs to be a technical Geomatics/GIS aspect to the 300 hour project.

I would like to use Story Maps as part of my project, I see it as having great potential. I thought of reaching out to the ESRI community for ideas.

You may want to consider that story maps and their data must be public*, which means you should probably steer away from industry data and associated privacy issues.

*from what I can tell - I could be wrong.

There are literally hundreds of ideas on the story maps website.

I've looked at the existing Stories, but I'm not sure it's technical enough just to produce a Story Map. I'm going to speak with my instructor about the scope of the project. Maybe if I incorporated my own field work into the Story Map.

My background is Alberta oil/gas fields, surveying leases and pipelines in remote areas. Story Map could work for resource companies wanting to show/explain their network of leases and pipelines.
