Hi Lyell
Here's a zip file you can download containing extended and alternate numbered marker symbols:http://links.esri.com/storymaps/numbered_marker_symbols
Your app looks good.
Rupert
Rupert, thank you very much for the markers. It's helped a lot!! And Lyell, thank you for asking the question.
Hm... I've already put the extended numbered marker symbols in the same folder as the rest of 1-99 numbered icons by color, but my Playlist still shows up to 99 features. Any idea please?
Thank you for your time.
Emily
Rupert,
Would you happen to have one that without any number on the markers please? I want to use it for the legend.
Thank you very much!
Lee,
I am new to creating Story Maps. I am having a similar issue with my story map. My story map is a Tourist Guide Map which contains approximately 194 points. I am also in need of changing up the colors of the icons because I have 11 categories for the Tourist Guide.
How do you extend the icon set?
I am not much of a programmer, so if there is a lot of code and programmer lingo involved, I probably won't understand it.
Could you help me? Maybe provide me with a step by step guide on how to set it up?
If you are interested, here is a link to the Story Map I started: http://marioncountyfl.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/?appid=6f745d868e2843058fb5f10fcbdfc18f
Any input you can offer will be greatly appreciated!
Amanda
Hi Amanda.
I'm already a big fan of your excellent horse farm tour:

I don't think you should try and put 194 points in 11 different colors into a Story Map Tour!!!! It's not designed for that really and I don't see that being a great user experience. Apart from being very cluttered, it won't really make it easy for people to find things they are interested in. Someone who is interested in moto cross might not want to see golf, for example.
If you have to include all the places in different categories, try the Shortlist template: it is designed specifically for that purpose: Here are some tourism related examples:
http://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/gallery/#s=0&n=30&d=1&q=guide
Or, if you want to use the map tour (it has nice big pictures unlike the Shortlist) how about making separate map tours for different sorts of visitors, so people would choose the tour that interests them...golf...outdoors, etc, You've already done that with Horse Farms. Then you could make a really nice web page that lists all of your tours. That way a visitor can open a tour that is just about what they'd be interested in without having to wade through loads of places. And they can easily share the golf tour with their other golf loving friends, etc, etc.
Hi Armanda:
Probably Rupert is right - 11 colors is to much. However I was "obligated" by my boss to include 15 classes: http://speck.conabio.gob.mx/NALCMS/photos/en/index.html
So if you want to augment the number of classes:
1) in the maptour-config.js: define a label, a path and a css-class for each class you want to add
2) in maptour-min.css define the color for the background of the numbers in the carousel.
3) design the icons you want to use based on the Photoshop file provided and upload them in >> resources >> markers
4) in the csv file you have to add the labels defined in the maptour-config.js for each position
cheers,
Flo
Hello Rupert,
Thank you for the kind words about my Horse Farm Tour! I am proud to say that I have been published on our County public website for our Visitors and Conventions Bureau - Here is the link to the Equine page if you want to see the finished product: Self- Guided Tour | Ocala Marion County Visitors - just click on "MAP OF OCALA/MARION HORSE FARM TOURS" link in the middle of the page and it will take you to it!
In regards to my new project, the Visitors Guide Tour, I have since decided to change my story map style to a short list. I now have all 11 categories set up in point shapefiles and loaded into a web map. I am not at the point of doing the installation and configuration of the shortlist template. I am not a web programmer and I may need to employ the help of our County Web Master to assist me in setting it up. I will definitely forward you the link so you can check it out when I am done .
Thank you again,
Buen dia, CONABIO.
I have used your instructions to change the markers for our map tour, thanks! Now I had just one question: we are using the yellow markers, but have changed the font color on them to black for better visibility. I am trying to change the corresponding colors on the carousel markers. I thought I could do that in Carousel.css but my numbers on the carousel are still white against a yellow background. i could use some guidance, please.
Rocio
Emily,
In the mapConfig.js file you need to change the MaxAllowablePoints value.
This is around line 19 and by default it is set to 99
I just wanted to send you a note back and thank you for your suggestions. As promised I am forwarding you a link of the Story Map's final product. I decided on a Shortlist style Story Map to represent all the different categories within the Tourist Sites. I haven't officially had this published yet, but it has turned out a lot better than I thought it would.
Thank you again and enjoy.
