Advanced print solution

Please find in the codegallery my first version of an advanced print solution:

The backend is developed in Java as a ServerObjectExtension: PChPrintSOE

The communication to the SOE is realized by the REST.
So, any client can be used Flex, Javascript, ...
I just created a simple FlexWidget.

Some features:
- full print over the rest api (usable by any client)
- export to pdf,jpeg,png,emf and mxd!
- view paper layout extent live on map
- make print on a "template" mapservice by keeping the predefined layout
- multi-mapservices/multi-server support
- add graphics on the map view positioned in map units
- add elements on the layout view positioned in paper units like scalebar, scaletext

The code is under full development:
- support for wms layer
- code clean up and reorganization

Any suggestions, remarques or help is welcome.

I cannot get the print to work in debug mode....I do not have Flash Builder and AGIS Server on the same box...so this may be the issue....
Could I use Fiddler running on Firefox? I will attempt to do so.

the line 359 is the right line.
Could you post the complete url with all the params?

You find it by selecting in fiddler the line and look under "inpectors->Raw" or similar.

Everything works fine now.

but i receive e error when the pdf is to be open in the navigator.

It is the

Server Error
500 - Internal server error.

The pdf is well generate in the arcgisoutput and readable on the server but not throw IE 😞

any idea??

Tom,
I've reset everything back to the original "settings" in an attempt to fix 1 problem at a time. The printout is actually leaving 1 map service off the print (this service includes the parcel lines). I have excluded some of the layers of that particular map service from showing on the legend.

Regarding the scale issue. I have configured the config xml for the widget to use cm for paper sizes and I've adjusted the scales to choose from. I have also kept the settings for cm/m in the flash project. The resulting PDF, although missing the 1 map service, is showing the correct information for the scale chosen. The problem is with the red box outlining the area that will be printed - it is not sized properly.

The SOE is generating the pdf in the arcgisoutput folder.
This seems to be something of your IIS configuration.
Could you try to open an other file in the arcgisouput direcory as url from the IE (or create a simple html file in it to control the access)?
If other files are working, you should check the file permissions.

I'm pretty sure that the problem come from the server, a question of security i believe.

now all work fine but the created PDF dont show the map. The legend, the scale .... well but not the elements of the map????

if you check the arcgisouput directory, there will be an mxd created in combination with your pdf/jpeg,...

The mxd is for analyzing any problems concerning the export. The content of that mxd will be exported.
You could open the mxd, may be you find out why 1 mapservice isn't displayed.

Otherwise, post this auto-generated mxd and a printscreen of ArcMAP having the sam mxd opened)

Hy,
your mapservice layers are NOT valid.

Are you using the latest code? I think to remember that I have added a "layer validation check". Layers which aren't valid wouldn't be added.

make sure that your download from the PChPrintSOE-arcgis.com site at least the version of "07/04/2011".

To update the SOE, override the existing jar file and restart your mapservices.

Could you restart your ArcGIS-Server services (not the mapservices).

Is your "ortho2009" printSOE enabled? You just have to make the "layout" mapservice PrintSOE enabled.
If it's enabled on the "ortho2009" mapservice, disable it.

It's done restart "layout" with PrintSOE enabled, and disable it on "ortho2009" and the error message link to the "cadastre" mapservice now 😞

could you try to open the link which is indicated in your popup?
My code is first trying to access a lyr-file for each printed layer to produce high-resolution/large-paper printouts. These lyr-files will have the direct datasource information to get best quality by working directly with the datasource.
This could be enabled by making the mapsevice also "PrintSOE"-aware.

Otherwise, it will work with the mapservice itself.

In your case, there are problems "Error 500" for any downloads fro your arcgisoutput directly.
You have first to solve this problem prior working with the SOE.

could you say what the error500-problem was? Maybe it's related with the current problem.
does the generated mxd still contain invalid layers?

Could you manually add the mapservice with the "Add data" button (use AGS internet)?
If yes, could you post a printscreen of the "source"-tab in the layer properties window?

Good morning Tom,
Thank you for looking into the inch/ft support..with my limited coding abilities I've hit a wall on how to succesfully change the existing code to support this. I can get parts completed...but not all.

I attempted to attach the published Parcels mxd - if this is what you want...but it is too large....I actually publish the msd of this document...I have attached a screenshot of the mxd as well as a screenshot of the service info.

First of all the "error 500" came from the settings of the web server.

The pdf extension was not allowed by the web server request filter.

for the rest, i'll test in the morning. it seems to be a problem with the URL of the layers.

I only work in intranet, but i think that it's not the problem.

I don't see the internet connection and when i'll use add from arcgis.com, there is a proxy problem

but i could use a map service from another society in flex viewer ...

Something else my arcgis desktop 10 is local and not installed on the server with the arcgis server.

When i point the data source to the good datas, no problem but the connection (in properties of the layer) become LAN instead of INTERNET...

I don't know if it could pose a problem, but when i copy the URL you said from flash builder, and paste it into a navigator, the URL is always troncated.

Thus the parameters of the map services are not used...

Do you think that it could be the problem???

To get the full url, you could also use "Fiddler".

So, you can't add your services as "internet services" in ArcMAP.
This functionality is required to get the PrintSOE running.

Could you check to get this running?
