Default labeling engine in arcgis 10.2.2

Does anyone know the default labeling engine in arcgis 10.2.2 ?  maplex or standard.

Although it's an old post, still I am answering it for users who would have same query in future.

Standard labeling engine is the default. one needs to set the Maplex labeling Engine and save the Map Document (*.mxd) to use the Maplex labeling Engine for that map document.
