Updating a Layer in Operations Dashboard

Question

I have an Operations Dashboard set up, but for various reasons I have to keep updating a layer. So I've been editing a feature class in an mxd, then publishing the service (as opposed to "Overwrite an existing service") and then I have to re-add the Feature Layer and then update the elements that I built.  So- is there a simpler way to update an existing Feature Class??

Is this layer a feature layer or map image layer? Are you using Portal or ArcGIS Online?

If you find yourself constantly having to edit a layer, I suggest publishing it as a feature layer. Then add the feature layer to a new web map. As long as you published the feature layer with editing capabilities, you will be able to edit the feature layer through this web map.
