Can I use Active Directory groups with Portal for ArcGIS?

Just starting my research on Portal and I was wondering if I would have to maintain the users like I do on ArcGIS Online (AGOL) or can I use active directory groups to maintain users? Are there any links to organizations that are using Portal for ArcGIS for public facing maps that I may reference?

The ability to integrate Portal for ArcGIS with enterprise groups (Active Directory or LDAP) is a new feature that is being introduced in 10.3. This will allow you to link your Portal groups to Active Directory groups and maintain the group membership through Active Directory alone.

In 10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2, you can add users from Active Directory but there is not a way to link to the groups.
