db block size

Question

Hi

ESRI has suggested in documentation that db block size is 16K for Oracle.

Is it applicable for SDO_GEOMETRY created by SQL and registered with SDE ?

Can i verify suitable block size with available data or take 16K directly as rule of thumb.?

There is no discussion in ArcGIS 10.1 document on this, so I was referring to 9.3 doc.

Which Esri documentation still recommends 16K?  The days of 16k db_block_size recommendations probably ended with ArcGIS 9.2 or 9.3.  Esri doesn't make recommendations for SDO_GEOMETRY configuration; the recommendation for SDE.ST_GEOMETRY storage is likely to be 8K, though Oracle may recommend larger block sizes under certain conditions.  The best way to decide on block size is to either:

a) let it defaut to 8k

b) benchmark the performance of actual data under actual conditions., and decide from there.
