Hosted Feature Layer vs. Hosted Feature View

What is the difference between a hosted feature layer and a view of a hosted feature layer? I thought that the view could have different settings from the original layer. For example, the original service is editable, but I don't want the view to be editable. Is that possible?

Yes, you can do exactly that with Hosted Feature Layer views.
