Can't load ECW application

Question

I am using ArcPad 8 with SP3 on a motion computing J3400 with Windows 7 Professional. I cannot get the ER Mapper ECW ArcPad extension to load. I get an error message saying that the application cannot find ArcPad.exe in the registry. I have tried installing the application as an administrator. Has anyone else seen this problem? Is there a work around?

I have just experienced this issue with Windows Vista and Windows 7, and found a way round :
Install ARCPAD, 
Before installing the extension, run ArcPad using "run as Administrator", this seems to be needed to register correctly the installation of ArcPad. 
Then Install ArcPad_Extension_ECW6.1 on top of your ArcPad V8SP3.

It should work for you, as it worked for me on both machines after 4 hours of trying different issues.....
