Copying from SHP to Existing GDB FC

Question

I have a SHP file containing 3 polygon records.  I want to copy that SHP file, and have t hose records be added to an existing FC in a GDB.  I ran the Copy Features GP tool.  Note: I set the Overwrite Options so the features should be Appended to an existing FC in the Output Feature Class. When I ran the tool, it did copy the features into the GDB, however, it did NOT copy them into the FC that I specified.  It added them to a different FC in the same GDB.  Strange.

Any thoughts?  Is there a better GP tool I should be using?

What you’re seeing is actually expected behaviour for the tool you’re using. Copy Features doesn’t append into an existing feature class — it always creates (or overwrites) a dataset based on the output path you give it.

For your workflow, the better fit is the Append tool.

Or just just copy/paste?

Select 3 polygons. Ctrl-C or Copy on the Ribbon, then "Paste Special" and select the feature class to paste the features into. I hate that Pro is so reliant on the Toolbox..
