3D Model wont position in Urban Project

Question

Hello,

I have a collada model that was created in Rhinoceros. I also have it in dwg format. The units of the model are in feet and are not in real-world coordinates. Urban allows me to upload the model but it does not appear in the Urban project which prevents me from positioning . I have tried various tools in ArcGIS Pro(scene) to georeference the model to VT State Plane (meters) coordinate system but it has not been successful.

Does anyone know a workflow to address this?

@MelanieNeedle , were you able to resolve the issue with your 3D model upload?

We just had a similar case where the model did not show up in the scene after upload. Two main issues in this other case:

1. The 3D model was far away (about a kilometer) from the origin. Tip: Try to keep the model as close to the origin as possible.

2. The material of the 3D model seemed to be transparent (even when looking at the .dae file in another viewer). Tip: Check the materials before exporting the 3D model from your modelling software.

Maybe these tips also help in your case.

Sorry to hear you having troubles uploading your 3D model to Urban. If I understand correctly, your 3D model and Urban Model have different units (feet and meters). A few question for me to better understand your situation:

1. Have you tried to convert the 3D model into metric units before uploading it to Urban? We recommend that the units match with the units of the coordinate system of your project in Urban.

2. Is there any error message appearing after or during the upload in Urban? What also helps is to look for errors in the console logs of the web browser.

3. Do you see the the pop-up message that the model is uploaded? The position button should lead you to the 3D model in case it is geolocated far away from your project study area.

4. What is the scaling you export your 3D model with in Rhinoceros? We recommend 1:1 and rescale in Urban once uploaded.

5. Is your 3D model centered at [0,0] before exporting it from Rhinoceros?
