Link to complete metadata in Hub/Sites?

Is there a way to add complete metadata, including for types like ISO 19139, to the item page for content in Hub/Enterprise Sites? We're finding that even when we click the "View all metadata" item, it's missing a lot of metadata, including our data dictionary. We also found there's no way to show a url directly to the metadata page where the data dictionary can be viewed.

It might depend on the metadata style set by your org. If you select the Edit Metadata on the upper right of the Item Details page for the site, does it say the metadata style available?

It may not be ideal, but are you able to add the URL of the data dictionary to the Description field?

It's ISO 19391. The data dictionary is a tab within the metadata editor, I just can't see it when I click "View all metadata".

I think I'm tracking now. If my understanding is correct in how Esri handles the various styles of metadata versus its own, then the data dictionary and URL are there but you can't see it via the Item Detail page. I would try to access the xml file from the Edit Metadata button (upper right within the window) and change the style using the preferred style listed here: https://developers.arcgis.com/rest/users-groups-and-items/metadata-reference/#view-metadata. If it doesn't show up there, then my guess is something is wrong.

Thanks! This looks helpful (especially for Hub), but do you know how to construct the equivalent URL for https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/ <itemId>/info/metadata/metadata.xml?format=default for Portal?

The concept should be the same here too. Just swap out the address for the portal with the arcgis.com part of the URL. And make sure you have the correct Item ID too.

Thanks, Stephanie! That worked, but unfortunately, I'm still not seeing all of the information we need, like the data dictionary. It looks like Esri doesn't show all of the information in the xml.

Hi @AliciaMcMurchie1!

At this time ISO metadata styles in ArcGIS do not output attribute field metadata. The only metadata styles that will output attribute field metadata are Dublin Core+ and FGDC CSDGM. However, please note even if you enter that attribute field metadata using one of the ISO metadata styles that information is not lost. It is stored in the underlying storage format, ArcGIS Metadata XML.

It is on the near term roadmap to support ISO 19115-3 (19110) which will display the attribute field metadata in the XML and HTML. Once this metadata style is supported and selected for your organization, the attribute field metadata you have populated will be visible in the metadata XML and HTML.
