"Function requires a state to be set for stream versioning geodatabase" error

Question

I'm getting a "Function requires a state to be set for stream versioning geodatabase" error while trying to edit a traditional versioned feature class in a dataset of an Enterprise Geodatabase. Has anyone seen this before? I'm confused as to what could be going wrong.

The error resolved, but I'm unsure why, unfortunately. I haven't been able to replicate it.

Thank you - I took a look at this earlier, but I wasn't able to figure out a solution based on what the poster describes happening. I'm working entirely in ArcGIS Pro, not using a script, and editing in ArcGIS Pro has changed significantly. I've started a support case with Esri.
