Indoors 3D Dataset

Question

Hello,

I'm new to ArcGIS Indoors and running through the training courses online. With the training data, I'm trying to figure out how the different features classes within the Indoors 3D dataset were created. They all seem to have def queries on them to filter out all the elements which appear to have been populated by the details feature class in the indoors dataset.

In essence what I am asking, is there an easy way to create the 3D objects for the feature classes by loading data into them rather than digitising it all from scratch?

Hi @CTurn671,

With the sample CAD data you'll need to create 3D features by extruding the 2D details and creating multipatch features for them. You can read more about the steps to do that here. Splitting them into multiple feature classes is optional, you can always leave all the details in the Details 3D layer if that makes more sense for your organization.

If you are using BIM models (RVT or IFC) as the source for your Indoors model, you can import them directly to the 3D feature classes (Facilities3D, Units3D, Details3D) using the Import BIM To Indoor Dataset tool (for RVT) or Import IFC To Indoor Dataset tool (for IFC).

Hello!

In the majority of instances you are likely to start with existing building models from CAD or BIM.  Architects will develop models for their work, usually these days in Revit or similar.  For older buildings, it may be the case that CAD plans exist for the different levels of a building and used by the building operators.

With ArcGIS Indoors Pro you can directly convert existing CAD and BIM data into Indoors feature classes using the Indoors toolbox.
