Issue uploading shapefile into map

Question

Hi, I am new to GIS. I have a .zip with all of the necessary files for a shapefile (.dbf, .shp, .shx, etc...), and I am able to upload that zip as a shapefile in the Content section of my arcgis.com account. However, when I go to add that shapefile as a layer to my map, it does not show up.

I was never given the option to publish as a hosted layer. Do I need to upgrade my account for this?

It seems like you may not have published it as a hosted layer after the upload.
