Importing a style to ArcGIS online map

Is there a way to create a map layer style in ArcGIS Pro and then import it for use on that same data layer in ArcGIS Online. No matter how much I search documentation and the web I cannot find an answer to this question, nor does there seem to be a way to apply a style file (.lyr?) to AGOL. Is this possible? If not, why not?

You can publish a layer with the style from ArcPro to AGOL. You can also publish a web layer style to AGOL.

However, I believe only organization admins can add styles to the organization style gallery for use in AGOL.

These are polygons (soils, geology) that are styled in ArcGIS Pro. I am an AGOL admin. Seems ridiculous that I can export an ArcGIS Pro style to QGIS, but not to AGOL.

Anyone can export a style as a web style to AGOL. Only admins can add them to the org galleries. I imagine this is done as to not clog the gallery with symbology from 100’s of people.
