Hello,
My report was working fine, but today it started being very weird. Every time I apply any filter or a slicer the colors I choose for the symbology reset.
I attached an example.
@JannatAlasfoor - Hello there! My name is Anthony and I am a product engineer on the ArcGIS for Power BI visual. I was looking over this issue and I would like to help out if I can!
I am having a difficult time reproducing this error in my environment. Would it be possible to send me the data that you are using? Also, if possible, could you tell me the steps you are running through to reproduce this error?
Thank you!
Hi Anthony, I encountered the same issue. The symbology works fine with filter in Power BI desktop, but once publish the report to Power BI Server, color reset whenever using a filter/slicer.
The issue wasn't there before Dec 8's fix.
Another thing is if I use manual breaks or percentile breaks, it resets to natural break when apply filter. it seems using filter will reset the map to default values on power bi server.
Any suggestion or workarounds to address it?
**bleep** Anthony,
Kindly find a sample dataset attached. The steps I follow are:
- I place the "Block no" in the location field of the map
- I place the "Value" in the color field
- I change the location type in the Format tab to "Country = Bahrain"
- In symbology, I change the number of classes to 4 and I set the method to "Quantile"
- I change the color ramp to "Range 4"
- I put two filters on the page: Governorate and Category
- I try to use the filters and all my symbology settings go back to the default values
Please help!
Yup new update resets the symbology for me too. Last update fixed a number of things but broke another! 😕 The number of bugs caused by (or as a result of patches applied to) the massive mapping overhaul that released a few months ago is just appalling.
Hello Anthony,
I'm experiencing the same type of errors as reported here when it comes to symbol style: it resets to what seem to be the default settings (color ramp, number of classes, shape size, outline settings, etc.) after the data is filtered in the report.
I share @PeterMau sentiment, it has been quite a few months since ArcGIS for Power BI worked as it is intended to do, it would be great if the myriad of bugs currently in the viz are fixed in a timely manner.
Same issue for me !
@amy_bns If you're using report server, it may be on the older version. Can you confirm its on 2021.2.95 by hovering over the lower right corner of the map visual?
It looks like we're narrowing down how to reproduce the symbology resetting. We'll keep you posted and hope to have a fix.
We made significant changes to the map visual, updating the underlying mapping technology. This was a foundational DNA level change, that unfortunately caused some issues. We appreciate your collaboration and patience as we get all of these issues identified and resolved.
@PeterMau Please feel free to direct message me with your customer number and we can setup a call to discuss your issues.
Thank you.
Thanks, Andrew. Please keep us informed!
Hello everyone,
I have the same issue here. Whenever I click on any slicer or filter on my Power BI dashboard it resets the symbology to the same as if I just clicked directly on "Unique values" without any custom style. I would like that the style of my symbology would not change when people filter the data, because in my case the data is only intelligible with the personalized styles of the symbology.
@Anonymous Userdo you have any updates about this?
Thank you for your attention and support.
We had issues reproducing this with the quality update we just released, but we are now able to reproduce this. We're discussing this as a team to see what we can do to get an update out soon.
Hello Andrew,
Is there any update about the issue?
@JannatAlasfoor We're working on a small patch we aim to get out in a few weeks. Please stay tuned!
@Anonymous User we are a distributor in Bahrain. Request you to kindly provide us with an update on the bug fix. Thank you.
Will the patch fix this issue? I also have this issue with formats resetting to default whenever I make a slicer selection and was on a call yesterday where the general feeling is the app is useless for us in the interim.
@JannatAlasfoor @YvesKERGOURLAY @JijiJohnson @VRamosUWH
We have a fix that has been developed and is being tested now. We plan to hand it off to Microsoft this week, which means it should be in production after Feb 9th.
Thank you for your patience and we hope this resolve the issue for all of you.
Hello @Anonymous User ! Is this bug already fixed? Thanks in advance...
Yes, but we are waiting on Microsoft to deploy the update. It was supposed to be this week, but looks like it was pushed to next week.
any updates on patch deployment? still having this issue. Also tried to change points to boundaries this morning which immediately reverted back to points. about to call for a refund as advertised features DO NOT WORK
If you hover over the Esri logo in the lower right corner of the map, what version does it say you are using?
Hi. I'm using ArcGIS for Power BI (version 2022.1.98)
Interesting... would you be able to share the PBIX file with us for testing? We haven't been able to reproduce this with the fixes we put in place.
Andrew -
I had a similar issue back in Fall of '21. That seems to have been resolved and my classification settings are persistent. However I have a related issue now:
When I use slicers to control the values on a heat map (i.e. - show me the heat map for all records vs. show me the heat map for just a segment), the classification does not respond. This means that the map is useless after filtering. For example - when I map the market penetration for all customer segments the natural breaks are set to adequately show the differences between the classifications. But when I filter to a particular segment, the market penetration is now only using the bottom one or two classifications.
My expectation is that the classifications would react to the slicers so that I can view the relative difference in market penetration for all or some segments in the same viz.
Is this a bug or is the functionality not supposed to be there?
Hi Kevin,
did you solve your problem?
I have the same issue as you and I can't figure out if it's a bug or it's an unsupported feature. Could you let me know if you already solved it?
Thank you,
Alessio
No resolution - just jumped back into forum for the first time in ~18months. I'd given up...
