In a model I merge a number of feature classes, this input is parameterized. Before it starts merging, I want to unselect all features in these feature classes to avoid problems with accidentally selected features.
I would like to do something like this example within the Mergetool:

If you are using featureclasses (aka, path to the data on disk) selections aren't used.
If you are using featurelayers then selections are honored.
Use featureclasses as your inputs, not featurelayers
