Thankfully I got a real world GIS job at Davey Resource Group as a geospatial technician. Let's see where it goes from here!
Steve,
Congratulations on your new job! I'm taking GIS to enhance my degree program and my career. If you have an interest in understanding other GIS Analyst career possibilities email or PM me and we'll talk. Its an exciting world out there and the GIS skillset is needed.

Thank you Dave. I will keep this in mind. I am trying to get the VA to pay for my graduate certificate at PSU now, so in a year or so I will possibly be looking to move up to the analyst level.
Didn't know you were a vet. I work at USSOCOM. Make sure you check out
NGIA and USACE. I was toying with the idea of getting my certificate at
PSU. My son is in PSU's graduate program and graduates this summer. He
also has a graduate certificate from them. VA VR&E benefits may pay for it
as well.
Keep in touch if you need anything.
Cheers,
David Horwitz, MPA
Graduate Student
Thank you for the information. I am waiting for my certificate of eligibility letter from the VA now. I am fortunate to have both the Montgomery and the Post 9-11 GI Bill, so I should be good. I currently work in utilities / electrical distribution, but once I have some experience to add to my resume I will look into federal govt work. I didn't realize SOCOM had a civilian section. Sounds interesting.
Thanks again,
Steve C
