Export TIFF with transparent background

When I add a raster image to ArcGIS and Georeference it, an export as TIFF results in the raster with a rectangular black background. In ArcGIS this background can be set to transparent, but the exported TIFF can not have transparent background.
I would like this option so that the exported TIFF can be used in graphic (non-GIS) software. When I now open an exported TIFF and remove the black background in my graphi application, the result can no longer be used by ArcGIS.

I don't think .tif format can handle transparency? I think you would need a .png or .gif.

Tiff can handle transparency (alpha channel), most software can't handle tiffs with transparency.
