I almost always have to drill down to change the default halo size of 2.0 to a smaller size. It would be great to be able to change that default under Options, for example.
We've improved this workflow in ArcGIS Pro.
You can create a style item that has your smaller size halo and easily pick it from the gallery every time you need it.We've also decreased the number of clicks needed when setting up your text symbol. See the video - only needed to click Apply once!
