Could you please work on allowing users to publish annotation feature class to ArcGIS online?
I understand that the idea to to publish to ArcGIS Online. I just want to make sure that others who find this idea understand that this is currently supported for ArcGIS Enterprise: What’s New in 10.6 – Annotation Layers
Is this capability available in ArcGIS Pro and if so at what version? If not what version can we expect this functionality to be in place?
You can import annotation from ArcMap, but cannot be edited yet in ArcPro.
Thanks Christy, I'm not sure what you mean by "cannot be edited in ArcPro yet. Do you mean annotations cannot be published from Pro to AGOL yet? Or that published annotation layers from Pro cannot be edited in AGOL?
Yeah.
I was referring to Dimensions Feature Class.
Sorry.
Dimensions is coming in Pro 2.3 to be released in January. The model is similar to annotation in the sense of having to upgrade any existing ArcMap dimension feature classes to Pro dimensions.
Thank you both for the information!
This is literally the ONLY thing preventing us from getting rid of our flexviewer maps. If anybody has a work around I'd be interesting in hearing it.
If you want a workaround to view (only) your ArcGIS Pro annotation in ArcMap see this article. It'll take you through the process of publishing a tile service of your annotation in ArcGIS Pro that can be consumed in ArcMap.Problem: Unable to open an ArcGIS Pro annotation feature class in ArcMap
It has been almost 2 years since this idea was posted, any chance of this coming soon to ARCGIS Online?
Are there any updates to allowing annotation to be published to ArcGIS Online? I just started moving everything to ArcGIS Online and so Enterprise is not an option. I just discovered that the tiled layer I created for my annotation must be at the bottom of the list. This is a big problem! In this particular map I need the annotation to be displayed on top because of the solid layer. I may try transparency as a workaround for now.
Have you tried viewing your layers in Map Viewer Beta? I could be wrong but I thought that re-ordering layers (even tile layers) was a new capability...
I can move it just fine in BETA but when I save the map and bring it in the Web Application Builder, the annotation tiled layer is at the bottom again. This also doesn't address the need to be able to publish and edit annotation layers in ArcGIS Online.
2 more years, has there been any change? It seems like there are a lot of limitation in AGOL, can't publish annotation, cant publish features with a database join.
5 years since idea first posted. No news from ESRI?? We do need this functionality in ArcGISonline. I think it is available in Entreprise.
It must not be possible, or surely ESRI would have done it by now!
@KoryKramer Would you please provide an update on the ability to publish Annotation to AGOL ? Such a crucial thing to our workflows. Thank you !
Calling @KoryKramer, @JackDangermond updates please!
Or at least tell us it's never going to happen and leave it at that.
We need to be able to use a Pop up for the published annotation feature service. Our annotation has a link to a scanned image that we want available to the end user. Right now we convert our annotation to points to make this happen. The issue is the point is hard to select within the map to bring up the pop up.
Halfway through 2024, any update on adding annotation to ArcGIS Online?
I'm using a fairly complicated anno to points conversion script to get around this issue. The complexity is in getting a label rotation field added and the placement centered exactly where the anno was. Would love to see anno just be publishable. I've never really understood the breakneck speed ESRI develops at without ever ensuring that all its own data types are supported. There's not a competitor in the world that is nipping at ESRI's heels. They have the market cornered. Take your time and get it done right, ESRI.
Didn't receive an error for this when trying to publish my map until I tried by annotation layer by itself. Immensely surprised this isn't offered.
Sure it is possible, for 6 years now I have been hearing it is available in Enterprise. If it is not possible it would not be available in portal. I would like to hear from Esri why is this being held away from us AGO users?
@Miralem_Zeljo When I posted that it must not be possible I forgot my sarcastic emoji!
Nice one Bill! I hope we get some movement on this. Years ago this was promised in one of the conferences. I cannot believe more people are not voting on this.
Would also like to know if/when this is coming. I want to retire my standalone Server and just do AGOL, but this is holding me back.
I've been getting away with using ArcGIS Assistant to copy the MIL from Enterprise to AGOL. Hope this helps someone.
Looking through the old posts, I'm surprised this still isn't available. I need to publish a system-wide annotation layer for our mapping system and this would benefit me greatly. Are there any workarounds?
Currently, my workaround is creating a new layer using the Feature Outline Masks tool and then publishing that to AGOL with the rest of my data. It sort of creates a polygon for each letter in the annotation layer, which I just symbolize as solid black. It definitely isn't perfect but at least it is something for now until they add this functionality.
