The ArcGIS API for JavaScript<\/A> provides efficient support for creating web mapping apps that utilize the spatial capabilities of the ArcGIS platform. This allows, for example, the development of applications that visualize maps, integrate preconfigured content and services, create directions and routes, perform geometric calculations, and much more – all for common browsers on desktops and mobile devices.<\/P><\/P>Thanks to support for HTML5 and CSS3 components, the performance and flexibility of the apps can be increased. Also helpful are practical widgets, flexible tools for UI configuration, as well as pop-ups for implementing responsive design.<\/P>With the 4.x series of the ArcGIS API for JavaScript, Esri has released a newly revised version that now also supports web maps and functions in 3D. The goal was to make using 3D web maps as easy as 2D web maps. For this purpose, the API was fundamentally redesigned. A new unified programming model enables the same implementation of layers, rendering, tasks, geometry, symbology, pop-ups, and navigation in 3D web scenes as for 2D applications. Additionally, atmosphere, lighting conditions, and camera angles can be modified – this ensures a particularly realistic representation.<\/P><\/P>The highlights in the new version 4.1 are:<\/P><\/P> <\/STRONG>Support for additional functions with Dynamic MapServices<\/STRONG><\/LI><\/UL>With Dynamic MapServices, the display and content of the service can be dynamically adjusted. Among other things, dynamic popups, labels, and data layers can now be used.<\/P> <\/STRONG><\/P> <\/STRONG> <\/STRONG><\/P> <\/STRONG><\/P> <\/STRONG>New 3D Layer IntegratedMeshLayer<\/STRONG><\/LI><\/UL>This allows creating realistic textures such as house facades and trees from 3D objects.<\/P><\/P><\/P><\/P> <\/STRONG>New CSV Layer<\/STRONG><\/LI><\/UL>Very simple display of geo-objects from .csv files.<\/P><\/P> <\/STRONG>Writing WebScenes<\/STRONG><\/LI><\/UL>WebMaps are configurations for complete 2D maps and for 3D maps they are WebScenes. These WebScenes can now be newly created or existing ones modified by web developers.<\/P><\/P>PrintTask for printing maps (2D only)<\/STRONG><\/LI><\/UL>A ready-to-use task for printing 2D maps and content using a print service.<\/SPAN> <\/SPAN><\/P> <\/SPAN><\/P>The 3.x series and the 4.x series of the ArcGIS API for JavaScript will continue to be developed in parallel and will coexist for some time until the 4.x series contains all functions of the predecessor version.
