Track Diagrams, Interlocking Diagrams and Yard Diagrams

Question

One of our rail transit customer has requirement to display Track Diagrams, Interlocking Diagrams and Yard Diagrams on the map. How they are created, any ideas? Which ESRI technology is used to create these diagrams and query? Are they just maps? Any sample data or example available preferably with Roads/Highways data model configuration?

Bhavin:  We have a number of the larger Class 1 railroads in North America which have used ArcGIS Schematics to create their electronic "track charts."  A business partner (Bartlett and West) has helped most of them in this effort.  To date, those have not been integrated with Roads and Highways, although that is the plan for a couple of them.  Alternatively, Long Island Railroad (part of MTA) developed their track charts using ArcGIS Schematics and have integrated it with Roads and Highways.  They performed this work in-house, and while perhaps not quite as esthetically perfect as the Class 1 examples, does everything they needed it to do.
