Contour 3D lines to CAD -- exploded layers, no height

I want to produce a 3D digital model of a large portion of Northern India. I have imported DEM files into Arcgis Pro, contoured based on increments of 10, Feature to 3D by Attribute, then export to CAD. When I open the CAD file the contours are visible, but they appear to be exploded with no height. I was wondering if this had to do with the DEM file used or the method in which I am doing this.
