Is it possible to attach other files to a survey such as a pdf or .xls? I see that photos can be attached, but I really need to be able to attach a pdf.

Unfortunately, you can't currently attach, link and use files that aren't images, audio files or .csv files (with .csvs only being usable in pulldata). Depending on your requirement, you might be able to make do with providing a hyperlink to an online version in your survey.
