Does ArcSDE direct connect influence ArcSDE Service?

Hello,

We have an SDE 9.3.

Why when I open a Direct Connect, SDEMON command shows me that ArcSDE connections count is growing?

To my understanding, in Direct Connect the connection is made directly to the DBMS and SDEMON should be unaware of this connection.

E.g. when I connect with Direct Connect, SDEMON should show 0 connections. Am I right?

The sdemon command is used primarily to monitor and manage an ArcSDE service. Some of the operations used with sdemon also monitor and manage direct connections made to the ArcSDE geodatabase.
