Geolocation Problems in Arcgis for AutoCAD

Hello there.

Recently we have been having problems with the ArcGIS for AutoCAD plugin. We are a surveying company, and mostly utilize the service to show imagery or tax maps in NAD 83 so we can keep our surveys in this coordinate system.

The problem lies with with locate tool in the navigate tab. When we try to use it, it spits back an error at us which says, "Unable to use this location service." I assume the locator would be using ArcGIS World Geocoder Connection, and I have tried to add this back as a GIS service but this didn't seem to solve the problem.

If it helps we are currently running AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015 and have the 370 version of ArcGIS for AutoCAD. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Brendan,

ArcGIS Online switched to using https for its geolocation service and this broke the connections in ArcGIS for AutoCAD.

Since you are using version 370, follow these steps:

1. Open ArcGIS for AutoCAD
2. Add a server connection to the following server: https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/services
3. Close ArcGIS for AutoCAD
4. Navigate in the window file explorer to the following location: C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Esri\ArcGIS for AutoCAD\1.0\Locators
5. open the .agl file with notepad
6. replace the url in the file with the following: https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/GeocodeServer
7. save the file

8. Open ArcGIS for AutoCAD and your locator should be working once again.

If you decide to upgrade to the 400 version of ArcGIS for AutoCAD use these steps:

1. Open the locate pane

2. Select the "Add Locator" button near the search box

3. add the following locator: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=305f2e55e67f4389bef269669fc2e284
