Statistics shows NaN in Open Data

Question

I've been trying to configure the statistics within our Open Data site, to display the count of total records.  When ever I select a field, and select the count option, the Open Data site displays NaN.  Any ideas on how to fix this? The data set is our Building Permits, and I want to show all of the permits currently issued.

are your building permits actually numbers or could they be housed in a text field?  In most software 'text' is left justified and numbers are right-justified.  Perhaps an example or two would help
