When ArcGIS is converted to a feature layer from say an shp file, is it ok to then delete that shp file? Or is the Featured Layer 'pulling' data from that initial shp file?

Is this all within ArcGIS Online? Or are you using ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap?

If you are in ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro can also right click on a feature layer, select properties, select source and see where it is pulling the data from. That will indicate if your shapefile is still being referenced.
