Joining Points and Lines On Two Layers in an Operations Dashboard List

Question

Hello!

I'm trying to create an operations dashboard using the following map which I created from data from Revolutionary War veteran pensions from New Jersey:

I would like to create an operations dashboard which uses a list to cycle through the various soldier names, and when one is selected, all of the points, and the lines which connect the points are displayed.

On the map, I currently have two layers - one with the points with pop-up data, and a second layer with points-to-lines joining each of the points.

When I create a list in operations dashboard, it only asks for one layer to create the list from - so I can only have all of the points showing, or all of the lines showing. Not both.

How do I connect the layers so that, by selecting one name, I will only have all of the points and the lines connecting them associated with that one soldier appear?

Looking at the example, it looks like they're using a Category Selector - as I suggested in my previous post.

Essentially, what I am trying to do is what the Tennessee State Library did with their Patriot Paths dashboard, tracing Revolutionary War veteran migrations. I have essentially all of the same type of data, but concerning New Jersey veterans.

I'm new to GIS - I have 20 years of Photoshop and Adobe product experience, and even with a long graphic design background, I'm having a hard time figuring out arcGIS.  All I want to do is have a list of points and lines associated with a person's name, showing their migration from New Jersey to where they ended up applying for a Revolutionary pension in the 1830s.

What I managed to figure out was to create a table with lat/long data for each point, for each veteran. I then ran XY to line to create connecting lines.

The points are on one layer, the lines are on another.

I want to be able to have the points and lines on one layer so that I can cycle through them using a list selector in the operations dashboard, like the Tennessee example.

FYI, the web map you referenced is prompting for a login to access and view.

I'm not quite sure I completely understand your workflow, but you may want to try implementing this using Selectors. An end user could select a name, which could filter your 2 data layers.

This is expected behavior: a dashboard element can only have one input web layer.
