Cleaning building footprints

Question

I've extracted building footprints from LIDAR data into a shape file but now I need to clean up the polygons. Most of the polygons have a rigged shape. How can I convert these polygons into rectangular shapes looking more like a building footprint?
How can I make the polygons or polylines more orthogonal?

Good afternoon, did you ever get an answer for this question?  I also want to create rooftops from Lidar or what aerials.  Whichever is more feasible.
