I have been waiting for the Final release of the FlexViewer 2.1 before I started to push out some widgets I have been working on.

Here is my Identify Widget for Flex Viewer 2.1. I have tested to ensure proper functioning with FlexViewer 2.1 and am now releasing it to you since the API Team did not get one into the FlexViewer.

The next version is now released.

* 2.5.4 - Scale dependency and group layers are now honored when using the Identify option of visible.
    - Links can now have a tool tip specified.
    - Layer definitions are now honored when set on a layer in Flex Viewer.
    - When you identify multiple results and hover over a result record in the widgets results
       the graphic is highlighted on the screen if you are returning geometry.
    - bug fixed for info popups not closing when you clear the identify results.
    - If you choose not to return geometry than the geometry drawn when identifying features
      is used when hovering over a record in the widgets results list.

Don't forget to click the top arrow (promote) as shown below:

Mike,

Using UNC paths in a Web app is NEVER recommended. You need to go into IIS and setup a virtual directory so that you will have a URL to using in the link. It is a very simple process.

I am trying to set up a linkfield in the identify widget that opens up a .pdf document in a local network (vs. setting up a linkfield to a URL).

My first attempt was simply setting the linkfield to the attribute table field that included the entire path name to the pdf document:

It seemed to work at first glance as the identify widget in ArcGIS Viewer for Flex (2.2) did display the full hyperlink path name when you clicked on a polygon; however, when I actually clicked on the link nothing happened. The hyperlink works fine in ArcMap but it doesn't seem to want to work in Viewer.

My second attempt was to break up the linkfield with a linkprefix and linksuffix:

Any suggestions for how I can set up a hyperlink with the IdentifyWidget that links to a pdf document in a local network?

I was wondering if anybody knows it is currently possible in the Identify Widget to alias the Linkfield.

We have some URLs in our mapservices that are quite long and i was hoping i could alias the URL in the popup to something short like "LINK TO DOCUMENT" instead.

Attached is what is current and what i would like it too look like. Just not sure how to proceed to accomplish this. Anybody have a good starting point on how to do this?

Could you provide an example of how you are changing this please. Is it only in one place? Our Flex Developer has made this change and still no results. We are also using 443 (https).

Well what you are saying here has nothing to do with what esri is telling you about visible layers.

If you set the identifylayeroption to all than you should get just that all layers regardless.

We are trying to do an identify on layers that are not turned on in the .MXD that is fueling the AGS Map Service.

For Example:
We might have a group layer called 'Fauna' and this group player contains 12 layers but only 2 of those layers are turned on in the .MXD/Map Service. We do not want to over populate the Flex Viewer when this service is added, so we only display some larger boundaries. However, we would like our users to be able to turn on a layer and identify the attributes. The widget works good for layers that are turned on by 'Default' but not for invisible or turned off layers.

Changing that does not help. Here is the answer we got from ESRI on this subject. I'm still without a solution.

Hi Robert,
I have upgraded my viewer and source to 2.3 and upgraded your widget also ( thanks its great). I have two questions if you have a spare moment.

1) Is it possible not to have the popup but still have the object highlighted when you hover over the object or the listing of it in the results? in some cases the popup obscures important data - it would be nice to have the option.. ( I know I can x the box but I'd prefer to control it from the config)
2) the geometry returned for the popup arrow or pointer is not the weighted centre ( if its a polygon) so if you have many odd shaped objects the popup ends up pointing at the wrong place ... is there a way around this?

Hi Robert,

Question:Is it true that if you do an identify on a mapservice that has some layers "invisible/turned off" then it won't return those layers in the result. You may have turned the layers on in the current map, but the identify is querying the original mapservice itself. Is this correct, because I need to truely show "All" layers, even the ones turned off.

We have converted results into a gridded format and it looks great but the one last tweak that leaves the tool from being out of the ballpark is making it where it returns Alias rather than field name.

I have attached a screenshot of how it looks.

I am facing problem in setting LayerDefinitions parameter in IdentifyWidget from another widget(say ABC).

calling addSharedData("DefinitionQuery",QArrayCollection);

In IdentifyWidget-
In init() function-
ViewerContainer.addEventListener(AppEvent.DATA_NEW_PUBLISHED, sharedDataUpdated);

Also added definition for sharedDataUpdated() which is assigning "DefinitionQuery" to arrdefQ (Array)
In identifyFeatures()

The problem is -
For the first time when Identify is invoked,the value of the defQuery from the sharedDataUpdated() is blank.Its seems that identifyFeatures() is called first then sharedDataUpdated();

However after that it work perfectly okay.
I am really stuck on this and need your suggestion.

All,

There is a new version 2.3.1 of this widget out now.

Draw back for this is that it is ONLY for FlexViewer 2.3 or higher.

I do not have compiled versions for previous Flex Viewers included and do not plan to do that anymore. This widget is using the new 2.3 API PopUpInfo windows and thus is only FlexViewer 2.3 or higher compatible. Time for all of you to upgrade. This version has some good useability improvements.

I have done cursor management in the past and you will notice on my current site I do not... That is because it is a pain in the butt in flex and I never could get it just the way I wanted it. So best advice is don't waste time with this.

Hello Robert,
I am using your Identify widget ( and it's sweet BTW!) and i want to return all the fields available in my feature attribute table. i have dozens of features and dozens of fields. Is there a wild card of some sort i could place in the <fields> bracket to accomplish this or do i have to input all the fieldnames into this line?

OK. So every widget has access to a function called setMapAction.

setMapAction(DrawTool.CIRCLE,status:String,symbol:Symbol, callback:Function);

Now the question is, will your event that captures the mouse over be part of a widget (it does not sound like it). Using the graphic roll over event that will be firing you have access to the graphics geometry so there is no need for the DrawTool. The big part is getting a link back to the identify widget to execute it. My suggestion is to completely for get about this route. When you add the graphics to the map is when you are going to assign the event listener for the mouse roll over anyway so add a function that gets called by that event that does a QueryTask as you seem like you are only interested in that layer.

Update to the FlexViewer 2.3 and use a PopUp window that does all this for you.

I fully understand that(The map is just an image most of the time) and need to execute specific task on the layer to display\getInformation about features.

What I m interested is where to bound Events to do a specific task ?
For instance I could not see\able to found anything related to execute Identify when mouseclick is fired ?How that is happening ?

I can only figure out is you are calling IdentifyFeatures method on "drawEnd"drawTool.addEventListener(DrawEvent.DRAW_END, drawEnd);

Now suppose I want to execute identify to display Features in Infopopup on Mouseover event how should I bind Event to execute that infopopup?

I know its lot for you but just assume these questions are from a dumb fresher who is trying to work out well in your University and really trying hard to pass in first grade.

If I am not misunderstanding the question than I need to explain how things really work in web mapping.

The map is just an image most of the time (now like ArcMap where the map is actually layered features). This means until you run an identify or query or something that returns graphics or you use featureLayers instead of dynamic or tiled layers, the type of info you want is not available on the client.

Let me know if I don't understand your question.

At the very beginning of the IdentifyWidget.mxml I declare the symbology, for the point it's id is ptIdentify. Then you could assign a glow filter to the actual graphic that gets added to the map.

Now where to make changes to enhance the clicked point(Now its shows with a small blue color circle) for adding a glow and how ?

The answer is yes, it is possible, with some significant modification of the code. Do I have any plans to add capability like that to this widget? No, not at this time. Right now I don't have time for enhancements of my widgets, only bug fixes.
