Attribute Assitant makes edits slow in 10.4.1

My workflow is to add an increment ID with the Attribute Assistant with the AutoNumber method.  I was using this in 10.2.1 but since I upgraded to 10.4.1 (SDE still at 10.2.1) adding a point with the Attribute Assistant enabled makes the process unbearably slow.  Has anyone else noticed a performance issue with Attribute Assistant in 10.4.1?

I know it's been a long time since this issue was raised but I'd like to share that I've recently discovered the Autonumber method was the source of some serious editing performance woes in our geodatabase.  Prior to disabling this rule, we were experiencing delay of around 30 seconds for feature creation.  The troublesome rule was applied to a feature class with 36,000 features.  We're using ArcMap 10.6.1 with a 10.4.1 SDE geodatabase on SQL Server.  The Attribute Assistant Release is 2019.2.14
