I need a overview about the integration of Python within GIS using ArcGIS 10, including the general functionalities of Python, the possibilities of geoprocessing within GIS using python and explanatory examples.

I don't think the question is really something for a forum, start Googling and you will find plenty of examples, including many from ESRI. But just to give one: "Hitchhiker's Guide to Python and ArcGIS" by David Wynne and Jason Pardy.
