Displaying AADT traffic volumes in a 3D model... any advice?

Hi folks,

I am looking at showing traffic counts / volumes in a schematic way (as opposed to models on the street) within a 3D model of our downtown. Have any of you attempted to symbolize traffic data in 3D in this manner? Any links and or suggestions would be great!
