Field mapping settings reverting to default

Question

I am building a model but most of the time the field mapping I set while using the Append tool disappears. By disappear I mean after I set the field mapping the field mapping settings go back to default, as if I never set them. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening.

I am using Model Builder in ArcGIS Pro 2.2.0.

I haven't been able to find help online and was wonder if anyone else has experienced this or has a solution. Thank you.

Hi Robert, I am working in a Project and have all my source and target layers add in to the map. I have table joins on my source data which causes the field names to change and requires manual field mapping to match up with the correct fields in the target layer. I am not needing to permanently reorder the fields is just for the layers in my Project.

Field mapping only sticks in the project your are working on.

The field mapping in the database is not changing.

Are you wanting to permanently re-order the fields?
